The Last of Us: Part II has plenty of new and returning faces that players either love or hate. So let's take a look at the best characters players will encounterwithin the game.
10 Whitney (PS Vita Girl)
Here is a character who players will only encounter about three times in the story, and she does the same thing in ever encounter. What might that be in this story filled with despicable creatures and equally vile people? Playing on her Playstation Vita, of course.
To the people reading this article may ask, "Why is she one of the best characters with barely any screen time?" She is sort of like the embodiment of gamers everywhere, especially in chaotic times like these, as all she wants to do is kick back and play her games in peace.

9 Owen
On the surface, Owen just seems like a typical one-off character that gets a few expositional moments while trying tomaintain hisleader status amongst his pack of Firefly remnants, now WLF group. However, his character is rich in complexity and conflict.
While working to keep the safety of Mel and his unborn child intact, Owen triesto make peace with his former fling, Abby. He is a character that wants to run away and enjoy life in Santa Barbara while his conscience is still intact. Unfortunately, players will find out he will never experience that moment.
8 Mel

Another character from Abby's group, Mel is a loving character within the story. More so, she is what holds the group in place. She is slowly coming to grips with reality and dealing with Owen and Abby's relationship is something of a conflict of interest to her agendas.
In fact, Abby isn't welcome on Mel and Owen's ventureto Santa Barbara. As complex as her character can be amongst her fellow group members, Mel is smart and reliable out in the field and inside the lab.
7 Tommy
Tommy is not the same character he is in The Last of Us, as he is more of a conflicted individual motivated to seek vengeance for what Abby's group did to Joel and him.

Admittedly, some ofTommy's decisions leading to Joel's demise probably left players scratching their heads. However, like Ellie, he is determined to venture into hostile territory and risknot seeing his beloved Maria again if it means avenging Joel. That's somethingmany can respect.
6 Lev
Lev's character development is very grounded in realism. Focusing on mentality and identity are two big topics that are visited within the game. Through Abby's second day within Seattle, players unravel Lev's secrecy through enemy dialogue and conversations through Yara and Abby.
The secret being that Lev is transgender. Lev is a great character through his strong will anddetermination to be who he truly is as a person. Not defined by his mother's view of him, but an act of defiance to his tribe's status quo. Not only that, but Lev alsorepresentsAbby's light of hope for a better life and future.
5 Jesse
When first introduced to Jesse, he seems kind of a pushover, maybe because Ellie "stole his girl." However, players will grow to love him more for his character development that truly shines in Ellie's days in Seattle.
Jesse is an excellent character. He is understandable and relatable, a character who just wants to see the safety of Ellie, Dina, and his unborn child. Jesse deserved more in life and would have made a good father too.
4 Dina

Dina is the sweet girl that players encounter as Ellie. A passionate character that is there for Ellie, not allowing her to venture into Seattle alone. This happens despite Dinarevealing that she is pregnant with Jesse's child and Ellie revealing to her that she can not be infected.
Talk abouthaving a stress-filled day of Clickers noises and mind-blowing announcements. Dina's development from teenage rebel to loving mom conflicted by Ellie's later decisions leads to some of the best characterdevelopment within the game.
3 Joel
Throughout The Last of Us, players come to love Joel Miller through numerous memorable and heartbreaking moments. Many believed Joel would survive longer in the sequel given how beloved he was, but Abby controversially kills him in the opening hours of the game.

Thus, many fans were not happy about this decision. Joel, however, is remembered through Ellie's flashbacks, which are both charming and heartbreaking. Joel's moment with Ellie when he reveals to her the truth about the vaccine is one of the strongest in the game. Joel not only serves as a plot device for revenge but the catalyst of what brings Ellie and Abby's stories full circle. Without him and his actions, there is no sequel.
2 Abby
Abby is either the most hated or redeemable character in the game. To many fans of Joel, she is the number one hated character because she, well, kills him. While Joel did save her life from the infected, her motives could be justifiable, especially when players find out Joel is responsible for her father's death.

Abby is not an evil character, but merely a survivor like Joel and Ellie. Looking out for her group's best interests and keeping them safe no matter the cost. Abby's character changes throughout the second half of the game prove how a person broken by revenge can seek redemption. She is the ying to Ellie's yang, and when they come together, its the perfect conflicted symmetry.
1 Ellie
Ellie's transition from troublemaking teenager to savage survivor within the two games is excellent to witness. Ellie's relationship with Joel within the sequel shows how conflicted the former has become on the issue of trust.

Ellie's reaction to Joel's truthisjustifiable. No one likes to be lied to, but through the story, players see her coming to grips withthe situation and being forgiving to not only Joel but others as well. Ellie has the best dynamic element to the story and the reason why players brought the game to explore her story. When Ellie is hurt, players are hurt, when she cries, players cry.
